NSCC Net ID

What is it?

NetID is used to get access to the computers here on campus. You will need a NetID account to work in the lab classroom. The NetID account will also let you log in and work on any of the computer labs on campus as well.

Where can I got for help?

If you don't have a NetID account already, you can create one online, https://netid.northseattle.edu. If you have problems with your NetID account, you can ask the staff in the open computer lab, IB3303.

Other cool stuff

Using your NetID, you will have a "My Documents" folder that moves around with you. When you log in using your NetID account, the login script will create a connection to a file server as your I: drive. This is where your "My Documents" folder points. Anything you save on the I: drive will be available to you anytime to log into your NetID account, no matter what computer you log into. You have 100 Mb of storage space with your NetID account.

In fact, if you want to access your I: drive from off campus, you can do that as well. On Windows machines, the FileZilla utility will let you access your I: drive off campus. If you use a Mac, you'll use Fugu on OSX or MacSFTP on OS9. (Actually, you can use any SFTP (secure file transfer protocol) client that you like.) For more information, see the Remote Access web page.

In addition, your NetID account gives you a personal web page! On your I: drive, you will see a folder named "www". Anything you put in that folder will be available on the Internet. The URL for this folder is: http://students.northseattle.edu/your_NetID. Pretty cool, eh. Oh, and by the way, if you put a file in that folder named index.html, the web server will show that file when the user doesn't say what file to display. If you don't have an index.html file, the server will list the contents of your directory.
