Course Syllabus

Prerequisites: MATH 098 ( Intermediate Algebra )

Course Description:
Learn to create and manage your own website with images, links, and multimedia. Use EXCEL for scientific calculations and to create graphs. Create a complete presentation in Powerpoint. Design and build a simple database in Access. Enhance your website with simple JavaScript programs. Along the way, you will learn to move information among various program formats, among various operating systems, through email and compressed archives. Includes introduction to computer hardware, networks, privacy, and security. Prereq: MATH 098. Lab fee. Transfers to UW as CSE/INFO 100.

Requirement Fulfillment

  • CSC 111 transfers to University of Washington as CSE 100/INFO 100 – Fluency in Information Technology as of 12/05
  • CSC 111 fulfills the Quantitative and Symbolic Reasoning (QSR) requirement for the AA degree at NSCC

Course Format: Taught as fully online course with optional computer lab sessions on campus. A home computer is not required, but certainly helps the learning process. Students can use computers in NSCC open labs: IB3303 and ED1845B. Open hours are posted on each lab.


Grading: Calculated as weighted percentage of tests and lab-oriented assignments. Late tests and assignments only accepted with prior approval of instructor. Here is the approximate scale used to compute your final grade:

Final grade = 35% assignments + 25% quizzes + 20% worksheets + 15% tests + 5% message board participation
