Seattle Community College offers a solid sequence of Computer
Science courses for transfer to the University of Washington and
other
4-year institutions. "Computer Science is a discipline that involves the understanding and design of computers and computational processes. In its most general form it is concerned with the understanding of information transfer and transformation. Particular interest is placed on making processes efficient and endowing them with some form of intelligence. The discipline ranges from theoretical studies of algorithms to practical problems of implementation in terms of computational hardware and software..." (Computer Science Accreditation Board http://www.csab.org) As described by a student at NSCC: "Computer science is not about sitting down and typing code. It is a way of thinking and reasoning, and computer scientists are communicators who translate the needs of humans into instructions for machines. Like mathematics or English, computer science is a language all its own." Entrance into the Computer Science program begins with MAT 098 (Intermediate Algebra). You can then take 1, 2, or 3 quarters of computer science courses as required by your major. |
